Unable to download and install the CodePro-Audit package

Postby gallalSF » Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:32 am

I tried to install Code-Pro from the update site 'http://dl.google.com/eclipse/inst/codepro/latest/3.6' over a dozen times for the past week, but no luck. I ended up installing packages individually until I found out which one wouldn't install, and it was CodePro- Audit

How to recreate the problem:
    Download eclipse
    Go to the update manager
    Add 'http://dl.google.com/eclipse/inst/codepro/latest/3.6" update site
    Install packages from the update site added

Error message in pop-up window:
    An error occurred while collecting items to be installed

Note that the error log was empty before install attempt.

What I tried to resolve the issue:
    I tried to install after a clean eclipse start-up using -clean.
    I tried to install on a freshly downloaded eclipse 3.6 and 3.5.
    I tried to wait 5 minutes as some discussions suggested, and I even tried to after waiting for hours.
    I tried after switching into a new workspace.
    I tried early in the morning before going to work, in the afternoon, and late at night. (Thinking that maybe the update site was overloaded at certain times)
    I tried to after enabling all other update sites, and I tried to after disable all other update sites.
    I tried to install after unchecking the 'contact all other update sites during install to find required software' option in the install wizard.
    I tried to install after changing the installed JRE version in the eclipse preferences to v 6.20 JDK and 6.21 JDK as some other forums suggested that this can solve some update site issues.
    I tried running eclipse using the 'run as an administrator' option in Windows 7

System info:
    OS: Windows 7
    Eclipse Version: 3.6 Helios (also tried 3.5) for Java EE Develoeprs
    Other packages installed: Only Google Plugin for Eclipse + GWT and App Engine, GWT Designer, and packages included with Eclipse for Java EE developers

Have you tried with a copy of Eclipse that does not have those other Plug-ins installed?

I tried a 'brand new' eclipse 3.6 for java developers and I am still having the exact same problem.

It seems to me that, as the error log suggests, there is something wrong with the download stream. There is something wrong with the following osgi bundle to be specific:

    osgi.bundle,com.instantiations.eclipse.analysis.deadcode,7.0.0.r36x201009141335

I just tried with a fresh download of 3.6 Java EE under Windows 7 and I did not encounter any errors installing.

I attached a screen shot of the Update Manager's first wizard. Are you doing anything different?

That is exactly what I am doing. One thing I can think of that could be wrong is something that has to do with the JRE that I am using.

    -Which version of JRE are you running?
    -Which version do you have configured in the installed JRE's preference panel? (I don't see how this one would be relevant, but I read some other forums which mentioned this as a cause of eclipse download site issues)

In the meantime, I will try to download Eclipse and install the plug-in on a different machine.

P.S. I can get to the page that you displayed in the snapshot. I follow the steps and it all seems fine. It even starts downloading the plug-in. But it stops half-way and displays the error message.

Did you continue until the plug-in was downloaded and installed and the "do you want to restart eclipse now' message appeared?

eclipse.buildId=M20100909-0800
java.version=1.6.0_17
java.vendor=Sun Microsystems Inc.
BootLoader constants: OS=win32, ARCH=x86, WS=win32, NL=en_US
Framework arguments: -product org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
Command-line arguments: -os win32 -ws win32 -arch x86 -product org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product

JRE Preference only has one entry, jre6.

Did you continue until the plug-in was downloaded and installed and the "do you want to restart eclipse now' message appeared?

Yes. It finished installation and I restarted Eclipse.

Eclipse 3.6.1 download: (also tried with 3.6)
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/downlo ... -win32.zip

I'm using 32bit versions of Win7, Eclipse and Java.

Not sure what's causing this. If you're still having problems, try installing using the Archived/zip Update Site here:

The problem is Solved, Thanks a lot.

Downloading the archive and installing it manually worked for me. I wonder why that is though.

Glad that worked for you. We're still puzzled why the live update site does not work for you. Please let us know if you discover something that might help us figure this out. Thanks!

Antivirus was blocking some packages from the update site.

Postby gallalSF » Thu Oct 21, 2010 2:28 am

This might help you identify the root of the problem that I had. I think it is because Kespersky doesn't let some of your packages through the firewall when updating from the update site.

I realized that some web pages that I browsed to wouldn't appear in Google Chrome, and I would instead see a blank page with the title (1x1). I did some research and I found out that it's something that had to do Kespersky blocking those sites because it deemed them unsafe. It then crossed my mind that maybe the problem I had with downloading your plugin had to do with Kespersky, so I downloaded a new version of eclipse and installed the plugin from the update site and it worked seamlessly.
