Swing databinding

Postby marcos65 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 9:12 am

I think it should be better explained that one needs to add this file to the project's classpath:

beansbinding-1.2.1.jar

in order to use the databinding feature with WindowBuilder Pro.

I have found this in no place on this forum, nor in the User Guide / Tutorials.
It might be obvious for skilled programmers. Not for newbies.

Thanks anyway, WindowBuilder is a great product. I like it very much.

We used to actually ship that jar, but we are no longer allowed to since WindowBuilder is now an Eclipse open source project.

Looking at the state of JSR 295, it actually looks pretty dead, so we will probably deprecate it in WB as well.

I think it certainly qualifies as "use at your own risk" and should definitely be avoided by newbies.

Do you mean WB will lose its databinding features for Swing? it would be a sin..
Any alternative library to beansbinding-1.2.1.jar?

For JSR 295, likely yes...unless there is some evidence that JSR 295 is alive.

Whether WB would lose its Swing DB capabilities would depend on the Eclipse.org developer community since WB is now an open source project (assuming there was interest in targeting a different DB library).

Supporting a dead library and taking users down a path to nowhere would also be a sin ;-)

For the JSR 295 API that WB targets? Not that I am aware of?

Are there competing Swing DB frameworks out there? Sure. Creating tooling for any of them is a very large job.
