eclipse search is slow after designer install

Postby jcasp » Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:45 am

Hi,
I just downloaded swing-designer yesterday to evaluate. I've noticed that since I installed it and deleted the eclipse configuration directory as suggested, when I run a search (e.g., find references or declarations), eclipse takes far longer to complete than usual. I clicked Details on the search window, and it is running a "JSP Search indexing workspace" task along with the Java Search task.

Although I don't see why swing-designer would do this, it has only started after I installed swing-designer (and no other changes were made). I'm currently upgrading to eclipse 3.0.2 (currently running 3.0.1) to see if that makes any difference. If you are aware of anything installed by swing-designer that might cause this problem, please let me know. Other than that, swing-designer looks pretty nice so far!
Thanks for your help
Justin

I have never noticed any sloweness in search functions with Designer loaded. I can't even image how there could be any effect.

Are you seeing this slowdown consistently across multiple sessions?

I suppose it might be a side effect of Eclipse needing to recache various search info after the install, that that is an Eclipse issue; not a Designer issue. I would expect that to go away after a couple of searches.

Thanks for the reply, Eric.
I really couldn't see why it would be Designer either, but the timing was highly coincedental. It happens consistently after restarts, and even after restoring my old configuration directory (I renamed it rather than deleting after Designer install).
The only other references I saw to this problem are here:

Maybe Designer uses some of the same components provided by eclipse.org in a similar way as this product (My Eclipse) ?
