How to start the editor?

I've worked my way through section 8.2, and I don't understand how
to bring up the properties editor I've just created. I get the Favorites
view, and can add things to it, but how should the editor be made to appear?
I think I'm missing some key idea here. Thanks for any help.

I solved my own problem here by fixing the missing "s" in the id value,
as described in the errata for section 8.1. My editor now appears when
I double-click on a file with a ".properties" extension.
