EMSRV on Windows Server 2008

Postby paul » Mon Aug 23, 2010 2:16 pm

According to http://st.instantiations.com/docs/sysreq/SystemRequirements.htm, EMSRV 7.1a is supported on “Windows Server 2008 R2 (8.0.2)”

Does the “8.0.2” in parentheses mean that EMSRV is only supported on this operating system when running with a version 8.0.2 client? Or will it work with older client versions (as old as 6.0.2), either with or without support? It doesn’t seem as though the operating system on which EMSRV runs should affect its interoperability with a client, but it would be good to know for sure.

Thank you.

Paul -

You are correct -- when we do the EMSRV validation for a platform, it is done with EMSRV running on that platform (in this case, Windows Server 2008 R2) and several clients running on various other Windows and UNIX platforms. I run clients as far back as V3.0a connected to EMSRV 7.1a running on (in my case) Windows 7. Since no changes were made to EMSRV for Windows Server 2008 R2, saying V8.0.2 just gives us a point-in-time associated with our validation test.
