Hi All,
Can anyone give me some ideas about how to access a USB port?

Not sure what kind of device you're after, but you may find a starting point here:

There are sometimes easier ways to access USB devices - if you e.g. want to access joysticks; I have used the SDL multimedia library for that. Another way - instead of doing all those low-level computing - is to use a high-level C-library like "libusb-win32" (but I had trouble with that on my Win7/64 bit system).
