Marten Feldtmann kindly videotaped the entire conference and has made the video files available on his website:

All videos have now been rendered and are available for download at:

http://www.schrievkrom.de/extfiles/vastforum2010/

I will publish them at my blog over the next days. You may download
these files and offer them for download at your site - also to help my
limited bandwidth.

As you may have noticed, the formats of these files are slightly
different - I tested several attempts to create these files. The most
time consuming video was the format of the "Update-802" talk by John
O'Keefe. I tried to copy/change the format of the PDC2008 conference of
Microsoft. Therefore I decided to use a larger screen resolution to get
a higher quality - but also much larger files. the PDC 2008 conference
actually had two camera: one for the speaker (and the sound) and one for
their presentations/demos (no sound needed) - which results in very nice
videos (also due to their very good light).

Just to get an idea: the original video source was HDTV (1440x720), to
be able to edit this format (file sizes > 4 GB) on a normal pc it has to
be converted to mpg2. To get a video like these ones rendered in the
final version takes around 2-4 hours. Some have to be rendered several
times to get smaller files and to correct errors. The video material had
to be made brighter, because light was not that good at the conference
and the large video screen produces too much light and the person
therefore was always too dark.

The "Update-802" video took more than 1 day for editing purposes to get
the final version. Therefore I decided to reduce the amount of work in
all other videos.

The sound of the Q+A session was bad - simply as it was in reality. I
sat in the back of the room and at least questions were very difficult
to understand.

Have fun with these videos. It was a nice conference.

Kindly regards,

Marten Feldtmann

First of all: A Big Thank You to Marten for all the effort for these great videos.

You can also read about the VA Smalltalk Forum Europe 2007, 2008 and 2010 on my blog: http://joachimtuchel.wordpress.com/category/va-smalltalk-forum-europe/. You'll find details about our attendee's feedback and some background info.

We also have an alternative download site for the slides and videos at http://www.objektfabrik.de/Downloads/downloads.html where you can also find the slides of past years.

I also enjoyed the Forum and had great fun getting in touch with lots of old friends and new contacts. I look forward to our next event!
