[VAST 8] Flat Toolbars reacting on dbl click only

Postby jtuchel » Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:31 am

Hi there,

I just played a bit with the new V8 GA release. On my XP box it seems that in a vanilla image the flat toolbars in the Transcript or any other window only act on double clicking a button. The buttons don't even visually react to a single click.

As I said: nothing loadad into a new image

Hi Joachim

That is a known issue and happens with certain mice and mouse drivers. In the options menu, you can select 'use emulated toolbars' to work around it.

That option is not a global setting and I will work on a change to make it a global setting and get it out in the next several days.

Thanks.

Taylor,

thanks for the info. If only I could find the right Options menu to change the setting... ;-)

Hi Joachim,

I opened a case 40578 and sent a change which moves the 'use emulated toolbar' option from the options menu of the class browsers to the options menu of the transcript and makes selecting of that option a global change.

Thanks.

TC,

the fix works nicely. The toolbars look much nicer with it and the setting is available in the Transcript and all other Windows. I assume this is going to be in one of the next releases?

As a side note: On my Vista VMs there never was this problem, just on a real PC with XP SP3.

Thanks for looking into this,

Joachim

Hi Joachim, TC,

I would like to receive the fix too. Or perhaps fixes could be posted on the instantiations site?

Tnx, Yuri.

Hello,

If you did not get them, can you send an email to vast-support@instantiations.com and request those changes?

Thanks.

Hi TC,

I have sent an email to vast-support. As you wrote in your post. I hope to receive a reply quickly  .

I wonder what you mean by
If you did not get them
, because I never received an email from you with the fix attached or a link to a site where i could download the fix.

Regards,

Yuri.

tc,

Thanx for ur mail, that was pretty fast! :D

It would be convenient to put these fixes on the site (perhaps a special section or ftp site) so other paying customers could also benefit from these little improvements.

Regards, Yuri.

Hello,

I'll make the website suggestion to others since I'm not able to modify it myself. However, all the changes will be incorporated in the V8.x release and it will no longer be an issue.

Thanks.

The error is back again in a plain VA 8.0.1 Image on Win XP SP3:
Toolbar buttons don't react on click events. YOu need to double click all buttons.

Once the option "use emulated toolbars" is enabled, all is fine.
I guess if there is some logic or effort problem behind this behaviour, it would be better to enable this option by default, at least on XP...

Hello,

The toolbar buttons not responding to a single click happens with certain mice but not others.

I'm using a Logitech mouse and have to double click (or use the emulated toolbars).

Thanks.

Taylor,

strange. I would have guessed events like click/double click are handed into the image from the OS.

But I think this should be solved one way or the other. Not all VAST users will know that the "use emulated toolbars" toggle might be related to their problem...

So either you should enable the emulatzed toolbars by default, or the error should be corrected. I'd prefer a combination of the two, since these buttons may be used in users' applications as well.

Hello,

Yes, but depending on the mouse and mouse driver, the events passed to the image are different.

But I think this should be solved one way or the other.

It was a problem with Vista as well but was solved. So, there has been effort put into fixing it (for xp also). I'll bring up the xp issue this week in our meeting.

Thanks.
