VA/Smalltalk on Solaris (Intel/AMD)

Postby tstalzer » Fri Feb 13, 2009 6:09 am

Hi

We have a couple of VA/Smalltalk applications active for a customer running on Solaris on Sparc Processors. Today we have been informed, that they are going to switch to the Intel/AMD platform but still use Solaris.

Is anything planned for VA/ST 8 for supporting the Solaris Platform on Intel/AMD processors?

Worst case scenario, Solaris Containers for Linux Applications: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/scla.jsp

We're using Solaris containers on Solaris right now for some apps and it's working quite well. We'll eventually be migrating our GemStone server as well. I haven't tried the Linux container yet - the last time I looked, it was only supporting 32-bit Linux, and we needed 64-bit for GemStone. The latest versions of GemStone run on Solaris x86 anyway.
