Bad version number while using jdk 1.5

Postby razor » Sun Feb 27, 2011 9:06 pm

Hello Folks,

I wanted to find out if anyone has is using the latest eclipse helios and GWT designer to work together with jdk 1.5. I was trying this out and was unable to get the design view to show up. It gave the following error:

GWT Designer was not able to show the GUI
Windows Builder internal error
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file

Do i need to upgrade to jdk 1.6.

Eclipse
Version: Helios Service Release 2
Build id: 20110218-0911

GWT Designer version 2.2.0.r36x201102111155
jdk 1.5.0.22

Would appreciate your replies. Thanks.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the quick reply, but am i correct to understand that jdk1.6 is required only for running the ide in my local machine and GWT sources that I develop/compile/deploy with jdk1.5 will continue to work properly in jdk1.5. My production deployment environment is currently jdk 1.5, with no plans for upgrade.

You need JDK1.6 to run Eclipse itself.

JDK 1.5 should still work at runtime for this release and the next. JDK 1.5 runtime support has been deprecated as of the 2.2 release and will be entirely dropped in the future.

See the GWT 2.2 release notes...
