Designer & GWT 2.0 Problems

Postby mfkilgore » Tue Dec 22, 2009 1:04 pm

I am testing the designer support for GWT 2.0 running on Windows 7 machine. My install of MyEclipese 8.0 was done using PoweredbyPulse referencing the most recent install. The installation worked with out any errors. I created the first GWT application with ImageViewer default. When I opened the application using designer and switched to design view I got the following error:
Error loading module(s).
GWT Designer can't load a module either because there is not enough heap space available for Eclipse, or some other module or internal error has occurred. Please increase the heap size and/or check your $project_dir/.gwt/.gwt-log for any GWT-specific errors.

I am attaching the gwt-log file for your reference hopefully this will help. Please let me know if I have missed a step or if I can provide any additional information.

Thanks,

Your .gwt-log file shows a very large number of [ERROR]'s being reported by GWT itself, so I would have to question whether GWT 2.0 itself is installed correctly.

It would also be helpful to see your Eclipse ".log" file and an example test project.

If the ".log" file does reference any memory issues, then you should make sure you have enough memory assigned to run Eclipse and GWT (GWT takes a lot).

Additional information, not sure if this helps or not... When I run the application (run as gwt application) it works as expected. The new GWT development mode comes up and I can select/execute launch default browser to run the app.

Eric,

Thanks for getting back so quickly. I did not see any memory issues but tried increasing memory anyway (minimum 256 maximum 512) but there was no change, I still have the same crash. As mentioned in previous post, I can debug the application (default) in GWT on this machine from eclipse. Attached is the most recent section of my eclipse.log for you.

Unfortunately, I didn't see anything illuminating there.

Can you click the "Contact Support" button on the Designer error page to submit the case to our bug tracking system? Check the "Entire project of error" to include the entire test project.

This was caused by a bug in GWT 2.0.

We have added a work around to the latest GWT Designer v7.2 build.

GWT 2.0 support is currently in beta for Windows only and is quite usable on that platform.

We will be adding support for Linux, OSX and various new GWT 2.0 widgets/panels over the next couple of weeks.

We hope to support the GWT UiBinder by mid-2010.
