O3D Integration

Postby EGR » Thu Aug 06, 2009 4:18 am

Hi,

my GWT (Designer) projects will be around O3D(JS). What's the canonical way to control this on the GWT Designer level? Support shouldn't that difficult - just window placement plus some event handlers... Do you have some time schedule to offer an O3D Window in your GWT widget box?

GWT Designer currently supports all standard GWT widgets and any 3rd party widgets that conform to normal GWT and JavaBean standards.

We have also added special support for GWT-Ext and are currently working on support for EXT GWT (GXT) with SmartGWT to follow (all of which do not follow normal GWT rules and require considerable amounts of special design time support on our end).

I know nothing about O3D and it is not presently on our schedule to add to GWT Designer.

O3D is a strategic 3D Web project by google. It is pretty new and designed to create rich 3D apps, such as games etc., directly inside browser.

My feeling is that, from a GWT Designer point of view, the 'integration' should be easy, as the interface would only be some window, mouse, kbd events... Without the ability to manage/place an O3D window inside the GWT Designer I'm a little bit out of ideas how to integrate the O3D part while coding the UI using GWT Designer.

Have you tried it in GWT Designer? What happens?

You know... I'm new to GWT Designer... at the moment I don't how to introduce an O3D window to the GWT Designer Design Mode. All I'm doing right now is to select widgets from the panels. Is there a way to use an HTML placeholder or something like that? This could be a generic way to integrate external things, such as an O3D window, without explicit care of it...

Does the O3D package contain any actual widgets?

If so, you could try adding them via Choose Component.
