What kind of class are you trying to edit with GWT Designer?

It doesn't sound like a GWT class. It sounds more like an SWT class given the references to Display, Shell and org.eclipse.

Unresolved references generally mean a classpath problem. That would be easily explainable if you are trying to edit an SWT class in a GWT project.

I would delete that class or the entire project and start over following the Quick Start instructions in the docs.

If you are brand new to GWT and/or Java, you should review the GWT docs and tutorial on Google's GWT site.
