Install question with Ubuntu 8.04

Postby unclerico » Thu Dec 18, 2008 4:26 pm

Hi -

I am trying to install GWTDesigner on a new Ubuntu 8.04, 32 bit machine I am setting up. I have

sun-java6-jdk
GWT version 1.5.3
eclipse 3.4.1
Each one of the above has worked for me.

the bin file I am running for the install is GWTDesigner_v5.1.0_linux_x86.bin (labeled installer for Linux for Eclipse 3.4)

When I run the .bin file, I
1. Identify the location of my eclipse install (that works)
2. Choose to clean the Eclipse configuration directories (so far so goo)
3. Verify my input set up and click next

I get a message box error that says:

"Installation Problem: java.io.FileNotFoundException: one of the following is not found install-image/Designer/E-0.0 or install-image/Designer/E-common"

Apologies if this has been covered - I did not see this in any of the "for Linux users" notes.

Thanks.

What version of Eclipse are you installing into?

The installer does not appear to be identifying the Eclipse version correctly.

Try running the installer with the -out and --verbose options to generate a log file. For example:

    GWTDesigner_v5.1.0_linux_x86.bin -out installer.log --verbose
This will run the installer in verbose mode and redirect output to the file installer.log in the directory where the installer is located. Examine the log file to determine the cause or send the log file to support and we'll take a look.

Thanks Eric - that helped. I had to reinstall Eclipse and get the installer to recognize the right location.

Ubuntu 8.04 users should note that if they use the apt-get package installer for eclipse, you wind up with Eclipse version 3.2.2 (incompatible with GWT Designer). The remnants of an installation I first made through that channel were causing problems for my subsequent Designer install attempt.

That would explain it.

Always better to download the latest bits from Eclipse.org.

Dear Eric,

The latest is taken from http://www.instantiations.com/gwtdesigner/index.html :

GWT Designer™ is a plug-in to any of:

* Eclipse 3.2 or higher for Windows, Linux or Mac
* Any Eclipse 3.2-based IDE such as Rational Application Developer 7.0

So I am trying to install GWT Designer (evaluation) in RAD7 (Eclipse 3.2) on Ubuntu 8.10 and I record the same behaviour as this thread describes.

Is there something wrong wih the above statement or there is something wrong that I am doing?

Thanks a lot for your time and effort,
Dimitris._

Eclipse 3.2 is only supported for GWT Designer v5.0 and earlier as indicated on the product download page.

GWT Designer v5.1 and above require Eclipse 3.3 or higher.
