Widgets Order in Design window

Postby ashouric » Thu Oct 11, 2007 1:29 pm

Dear all,

In design window, Widgets (and Panels) are a little difficult to find, because they don't have an order (I believe alphanemuric would be fine).

This is not serious, but each time I try to find a widget, I search again and again.

Many thanks

Widgets appear in the component tree nested under their parent in the order in which they are defined in the source. That order also defines the z-order (e.g., the overlap order when two widgets intersect in an absolute layout).

Maybe a filter or some other sort of search function would be more approprate.

hi Eric,
I believe the subject is about Component widget Palette in Design view,

@ashouric
right-click on Palette and choose "Palette manager",
from that point you can go within given widget category and after selecting particular one move it down or up. That way you should be able to sort widgets in order that is better for quick/frequent using them (e.g. VerticalPanel on top of list, etc),

regards,
Peter

I would never have guessed that from the topic or description.

The widgets in the palette are roughly grouped by type and frequency of use.

As you say, you can use the Palette Manager to put them in any order that you like. You can even remove widgets that you never use in order to reduce the clutter.

We've had questions about the order of the widgets in the component tree, but never about the order of the widgets in the palette.

The question didn't mention the palette, so the question sounded like a question about the widgets in the tree.

And, as you pointed out, changing the order of the widgets in the palette is quite easy.

hi Eric,
I only mean that it is definitely easier for users to guess what the topic subject is then for tool creators. That's fact of life :) (most dominated area of Microsoft OS tech support I believe),
kind regards,
Peter

Assuming that the question is about the tool, I don't see why that would be the case.
