URL for External Tomcat

Postby Mike Coleman » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:56 am

Where do I specify the URL to use when I am running with an external tomcat server. The current launch uses the localhost:[port]/[html path]. My tomcat is running on another machine so localhost will not work. If I manually type the correct URL in the browser window, the application works but I would rather not have to type it each time.

How do you run your GWT application on external/remote tomcat server? Currently I consider "GWT Application" launch configurations as the way for running tomcat locally and connecting to it. Would be good to know your use case with more details to give better answer.

I am running tomcat on another machine and port, eastland:8080. When I run my GWT app in Eclispe using Run As->Run..., I change my port to 8080, select noserver and add my other machine (eastland) to the whitelist. When it runs, the URL come up as http://localhost:8080/com.eastlandeng.m ... MyApp.html and I get an error since I specified noserver. If I type in the correct URL for my tomcat server location in the browser, http://eastland:8080/MyApp/MyApp.html, the app starts up correctly. I am looking for someplace to enter eastland:8080/MyApp/MyApp.html in Eclipse so I don't have to type it in the browser each time.

In the GWT MyApp-shell.cmd, when I specify noserver and whitelist, I can change the last parameter to the new url, http://eastland:8080/MyApp/MyApp.html, and the app will run correctly.

The latest build now includes a URL entry in the GWT Application launch configuration.

The contents of that field are passes to the GWT Shell (leave it blank to use the default).
