Designing reusable Composites

Postby joerg » Fri Sep 12, 2003 6:01 am

Telling from the options available in File/New.../Other/SWT, I cannot design a Composite subclass that I could then reuse in other designs.

What if I want to have a Composite that is supposed to appear in different places within the same SWT application? As I see it, I'd need to copy&paste it at the moment.

This is one of the features that the Visual Composition Editor of IBM's Visual Age for Java had (may it rest in peace). In case you want to have a look, here's a pdf about it: http://www.inf.fu-berlin.de/inst/ag-db/ ... jvbpdf.pdf

The whole thing was centered around the Java Beans component model, and in theory you could do all the event wiring and property setting in the VCE. Unfortunately, it never really worked...

Yes, currently there is no support for creating forms from complex Composite's in Designer. We will implement support for this feature, but I can not promise that this will happen in nearest feuture, as you understand, this is fairly complex thing.
