SWT Designer allows you to create the views, editors, perspectives, pref pages, composites, etc. that comprise Eclipse SWT & RCP applications and plug-ins.

Eric,
This may be off-topic, but I hope you don't mind the question:
I upgraded to the latest version of Ubuntu, and now I'm running into multiple errors that I assume will get fixed if I re-install Eclipse and WindowBuilder.
Eclipse seems to be working OK, but I get internal errors from the WIndowBuilder plugin when I switch to design mode. I've forwarded the stack trace to your support team.
This unexpected delay is making me wonder whether I should be using Ubuntu for RCP development. What's your opinion? Which operating system do you use at Instantiations for RCP development?

We use pretty much all of the major operating systems... Windows, Linux and OSX. Most of our developers prefer Windows as it is much more stable than any of the Linux environments for doing Java/Eclipse development.
For Linux we are using Ubuntu 32-bit and 64-bit without any problems. We also test with FedorsCore, SuSE and RedHat.
You might try setting the GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 env. variable as described here:
