In addition to a myriad of minor improvements (we try to implement most reasonable user suggestions as they come in), we are working on a couple of bigger items...

o Swing SpringLayout support (almost done)
o More code generation options like accessor generation (in process)
o Eclipse Forms support (in process)
o General RCP oriented improvements (longer term)

Other things we would like to do...

o Preference page field editors
o Support for popular 3rd party layout managers (like JGoodies FormLayout)
o Database support (JDBC and Hibernate)
o Support for the AWT_SWT bridge
o Swing to SWT conversion wizard

A longer term major goal is to create "RCP Designer"...

o RCP-oriented deployment support
o Perspective editor
o Graphical plugin construction (e.g., PDE+)

The next GA release will probably come in the next couple of weeks (once SpringLayout and the new code gen options are done). Whether we call it v2.0.1 (current development stream name) or v2.1 will depend on how big it is (so much has been added already that we might go with v2.1). The next development cycle would then begin and last another month or so. Eclipse Forms support would likely be one of its major goals (along with the usual continual stream of minor improvements).

As always, suggestions are welcome. ;-)

Hi,
I'm avaliating SWT Designer now and want to now if there is some best pratices to develop my view so it will be easy to convert I forms.

You will have some Wizard to do that?

The support to foms will be available until 90 days, so if I by my license now I will get It?

Thanks

I am not aware of any. The Eclipse Forms API is very new, so I don't know that any "best practices" are defined as yet.

We will have a wizard to create an Eclipse Forms based UI. We aren't planning on providing a tool to convert normal SWT UIs into Eclipse Forms UIs.

In general, I would recommend buying the product with a yearly support contract. We are constantly adding lots of new features that you will want access to.

We do try to list all of the changes in the Changes.txt file. The granularity is at the level of the release rather than the individual build. If you want to see the exact changes, I suppose you could compare to versions of the Changes.txt file.

Database support, maybe Hibernate

Postby calinm » Fri May 13, 2005 3:46 pm

I was wondering if you are planning to add database support to SWTD and features such as easy mapping of widgets to hibernate objects.

Thanks,

We do plan to add database support to the product at some point. We don't have a schedule for that yet.
