OSX Install Issues...

Postby jriggins » Tue May 12, 2009 11:59 am

Has anyone installed WindowBuilder successfully under OSX and 3.5? I just got my first MacBook, and I bet it's user error somehow, but here's what I get when using the update site:

An error occurred while installing the items
session context was:(profile=epp.package.modeling, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.engine.phases.Install, operand=null --> [R]com.instantiations.common.core 5.5.0.200905120747, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.eclipse.actions.InstallBundleAction).
Error while loading manipulator.
Error while loading manipulator.

I'm using the 3.5 Modeling Package...I had no problems with this package under windows.

I tried to install the plugins under <install>/dropins/designer/[features|plugins] but nothing seemed to be picked up and I don't see any logs in the Error Log view.

Thanks.

Yes. We have not had any problem at all.

You should use the Carbon version of Eclipse 3.5 (not the Cocoa version), make sure that the Eclipse PDE is installed, and then install WB from its update site.

Having the Cocoa version was the problem. Thanks!

The Cocoa version will be supported once Eclipse 3.5 is officially released and stabilized.

This is a fairly important issue to OSX users since Carbon is only supported on the 32 bit system. This means that it is impossible to run the Carbon version of Eclipse under 1.6. Although it is still possible to use Eclipse running under 1.5 on 1.6 projects (by designating the JRE in preferences), it is NOT possible to use WBPro on those projects. This has been a nightmare for some time for those of us who have 1.6 projects and want to utilize WBPro. Until you support Cocoa, we are pretty screwed.

If you would like to Beta test it, it is ready now.

You will need to downoad and install the ZIP distribution as the update site isn't quite working with OSX quite yet.

I would recommend testing this in a new, clean Eclipse environment and workspace.
