SWT Designer crash in Ubuntu 8.10

Postby dirkey » Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:21 am

Hello,

I worked for some months with the SWT Designer (I bought a license of RCPDeveloper). But, since a week it crash every time. Maybe this happens because of an update from Ubuntu (I don't know). I have upgrade to the newest version of RCPDeveloper, but still the same. The behavior of course is much better now, because the crash doesn't happen if i open the file. Instead it crashes only if I swith to the design tab.

I have attached the error log.

Thanks for help,
Dirk

Hi Alexander,

I allready reinstall the whole system (on a test environment). The effect is still the same. I have upgrade the Sun JRE to 1.6.0_13.

Thanks,
Dirk

Is Eclipse itself running against that JRE or the one that came with Ubuntu?

Currently I work with a JRE from Sun (download and install in a different location prepare JAVA_HOME and PATH). Eclipse is running against this JRE. But the crash also happens with the JRE which is shipped with Ubuntu.
I wonder, because in the past the SWT Designer runs just fine. Do you have any idea?

Thanks,

Is the error the same after you've reinstalled linux? Is it installed on VM such as VMWare? The error seems to be deep inside Sun's java native code.

I solve the problem. It seems that my system is run out of open files (bad error message from java ;-(). After increase the number of open files (hard and soft) in the /etc/security/limits.conf anything runs fine.

BTW: The Editor is realy the best ;-)...

Thank you,
Dirk

Hi Eric,

sorry to reply again on this post, but I didn't want to open a new one. The crash happens again. But now I really able to repoduce the condition for this problem. The previous mentioned solution (increasing the nofile limit) only increase the "watermark". I belive this issue depends on x.org/pulseaudio/jvm combination (Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04).

To reproduce this issue you have to do the following:

1. Install eclipse (3.4.2) and add the rcpdeveloper (anything works fine)
2. Install more plugins (anything works fine)
3. Install much more plugins (it doesn't depends on which plugin you install) and the jvm crashes

I try to figure out this issue. If I find a solution I will post it here.

This sounds like an issue you should report as a bug to Eclipse.org.

It doesn't sound specific to any one plugin.
