Yesterday I was looking at swt-designer (the free version) and working through some of the tutorials. Today swt-designer does not seem to want to load. I do not see it in plug-in Details, I do not see it in any of the windows menus and I do not see it as a choice for editors.
In frustration, I removed the .config directory and now all is well again.
I don't know what the problem was. I don't know if it is a problem with eclipse or with swt-designer. I post this here so that other might find it helpful

That would definitely be a problem with Eclipse. Since you mentioned the .config directory, I assume you are using a version of Eclipse 3.0 prior to M8. It is well known for forgetting about installed plugins. Did you install any other plugins or update to a newer Eclipse version between yesterday (when it was working) and today (when it was not)? Deleting the .config directory (or the configuration directory in M8) will cure most plugin configuration/installation issues.

I am using M7 and did not make any changes. Now that you mentions M8, have you tested swt-designer with M8? Should I upgrade?

Yes. You can download a version of Designer specifically for M8. Do not use the version that you are currently using as it only supports M7.
