I have a class that extends jpanel, and when I try to view it using designer within eclipse, it locks eclipse up tight. what debug logs can i send?

What version of Designer are you using (build date and file name)? What version of Eclipse are you using? What operating system?

The Eclipse ".log" file is in the eclipse/workspace/.metadata directory.

BTW, if you are using Eclipse on the Mac, you are out of luck. The lockup is do to a well known bug in Eclipse itself that isn't going to be fixed any time soon. As a result, we do not support Swing Designer on the Mac. We may revist that issue some day when, and if, Eclipse on the Mac ever becomes more than a second class citizen.
