Postby mfkilgore » Sat May 22, 2004 8:16 am

Knowing that the release of Swing is soon, I have loaded the most recent version on may Mac. I am running 3.08 and the SWT Designer runs fine. Howver when i create a Swing app and attempt to go to design view the system hangs.

Other information

That is caused by an Eclipse bug. As a result, we only support SWT development on the Mac. I don't know when or if we can support Swing development there.

This bug has been closed. Is it really fixed? If not, you may want to reopen with enough info so that the eclipse developers can reproduce it.

No, but they claimed not to be able to reproduce it. We can reproduce it easily and have several customers who have run into it as well.

We have re-opened Bug #53790 and included a simple standalone plugin example that exhibits the same hanging behavior we are seeing in Designer.

If you would like to help, please download and run this test case. If it hangs for you, let us know. If it does not not hang, let us know as much about your Mac, Eclipse and JDK configuration as possible.

If it does hang for you and you can fix the sample so that it doesn't hang (i.e., you can fix the problem), let us know.

It looks like we have our answer from the Eclipse folks...

"Interoperability between Swing/AWT and SWT isn't supported on Mac OS X"
For the full exchange, see...

For more detail, see...

Apparently, we aren't the only ones who reported this problem.

Based on this, I don't think we will be support Swing Designer on the Mac any time soon. Sorry...
