Unicode support

Postby jduff » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:38 am

Is it on the roadmap to make VA Smalltalk a true Unicode environment?

We finally worked out kinks to enable our Czech users to use their language, but it involves them setting their Windows Regional Settings Avanced tab to Czech and rebooting. (Windows forces the reboot.)
That is fine for the Czech users--since they just set it and forget it--but it will become increasingly annoying for our regional and corporate employees to have have to reboot constantly once we start rolling out to Poland, Austria, Greece, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Nobody answered this question ? John talked about this problem in Stuttgart, questions were asked about this and it is on the roadmap. Have a look at the slides or just view the recorded session.

You can download/view the presentation (together with all others from the VA Smalltalk Forum Europe) on our website at:

Unicode is on the roadmap, as Marten stated, and it is really awaited. Especially when working with Seaside there are edges where you need to be able to handle utf-8 correctly.
