VA and VS2010 - Debugging

Postby marten » Thu Jul 15, 2010 12:11 pm

We have seen strange interaction when doing debugging in VS2010 and have VA running - in that way, that VA is not responding. Actually my colleque mentioned, that several other programs also have problems, when debugging .NET programs with VS2010 - they are simply not responding any more.

Hi Marten,

we have the same problem on VS2005 and VS2008.
Do your .Net Application and VA application communicate with each other via TCP?
In our case yes...

It seems like both debuggers block the connection each other. This leads to hangs and timeouts afterwards.

We didn't find a solution for this, yet.

Sorry ;-)

No, the VA-application has nothing to do with the debugging .NET application - it was simply a VA-application (the C# code generator/object modeller running within the development-IDE). I simply wanted to switch from the debugging VS2010 to the VA application, but whatever I did to active the VA application (e.g. click inthe window) - it did not work. Then I stopped debugging with VS2010 and then the VA application at once reacted and became active.

Hi Marten,

same behavior at us!

But it only happens while debugging both,...
Running into a VS C# Breakpoint and then into a VAST Breakpoint....
But in our case it isn't just the VASmalltalk application that hangs sometimes. It can be both or one of them.

Sorry, that I can't give you an additional hint on this. I thought it happens just when both applications communicater with each other.

Your case is new to me.

Please post any result or explanation on this, once you may have one!

Cheers!
Sebastian
