SWT Designer allows you to create the views, editors, perspectives, pref pages, composites, etc. that comprise Eclipse SWT & RCP applications and plug-ins.

I have found while using the Designer that after a while the menus in Eclipse stop working. For example, I create a new Swing JFrame, then want to run it. I select the Run menu to choose the Run As submenu and Eclipse seems to hang (before I can select the submenu). Using alt-tab to switch to another application then back unfreezes Eclipse but of course the menu is gone then. If I close any open Designer editor sessions the menus seem to come back. I am running Eclipse 3.0.1 build 200409161125 with Designer 2.1.0.

I've never seen or heard of that happening. I can't even imagine how Designer could possibly have that effect on Eclipse. Any chance its just swapping or doing a garbage collect? What are your Eclipse startup parameters (e.g., how much memory are you allocating to it)? You might want to try v2.1.1 to see if that makes any difference (it shouldn't).

Thanks, I will give 2.1.1 a try. Do you folks have an update URL that Eclipse can use? I realise that 2.1.1 is not yet officially released but I don't see the update option show up at all when I go to the Find and Install... section.
Your comment about memory makes sense. I am doing plug-in design and I can see that the more things I add the worse it will get. I will try that and hope for the best.

No. The Eclipse Update mechanism is quite limited. It only works with major updates and not with with intermediate development builds. That makes it useless for any new builds in the v2.1.1 stream.
