Question - Is support for the Mac (OS X) in the plans

Postby mfkilgore » Tue Nov 04, 2003 9:30 am

I do much of my development on a Mac these days and would like to know your plans to support Eclipse on the Mac. I am using 3.0 M4 (build 200310101454) with no other problems.

If you do plan to support the Mac I can report a crash when launching the designer. I would be happy to provide more information.

Thanks.

We would like to support the Mac, but it has been tough so far due to some instabilities in the basic Eclipse/Mac implementation. We just had a critical problem fixed by the Eclipse folks (after M4) which will hopefully allow us to make more progress (the 1.2.1 beta is actually much improved over the 1.2.0 version).

Thanks for that update. I have downloaded and tried the later version of Eclipse and it works without the initial crash.

I will use the product for a few days and let you know of other issues that show up.

So far I have two:
1) I attempted to use a tab layout and it froze Eclipse up
2) Form elements to not paint on the screen when in design mode. you can move around and see the outline marked but to see what the screen looks like you have to jump to test view. In Windows this works differently.

Thanks again for your help!

Did anything show up in the log?

The problem here is that we can't get the screen shot code to work on the Mac. That means that we can't get the widget images to show up in the Designer. You can move things around, change settings and generate code, but you can't see anything until you invoke test mode.
