FileDialog workarounds

Postby ejain » Fri Sep 18, 2009 3:32 pm

WindowTester can't interact with (native) dialogs such as a FileDialog (SWT). What kind of workarounds have people here come up with (besides replacing the FileDialog with a dialog that shows a text field that can be filled using a FileDialog)? For example, has anyone tried to substitute the FileDialog class with a testable mock implementation? (I'm concerned with test playback only, not recording.)

I'm especially curious how folks have managed this (if they have) since native dialogs are so challenging to support directly.

Incidentally, do you require support across platforms?

Finally, whatever approach you take, please consider sharing your angle of attack. We'd love to collaborate on any solution and would be keen to include anything shareable in the windowtester commons community project (

Thanks all!
