I'm not very familiar with encryption and the OpenSSL stuff, I just remembered reading something about it in the Squeak news group. That said, wrapping OpenSSL sounds good. Sometimes the Squeak people (who I respect a lot and who are very active promoting and advancing Smalltalk) reinvent the wheel just to have everything coded in Smalltalk. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it takes more time than it is worth.

I think if we do anything more with message digests and encryption, the approach will be to wrap the OpenSSL code, but refactoring it down to something like an ENVY\Image Security map that isn't dependent on the rest of the OpenSSL stuff.
