Problems installing 7.5 on Vista

Postby dmacqueen » Fri Nov 02, 2007 5:44 pm

I am trying to install VAST 7.5 (not 7.5.1 or 7.5.2) on Vista Home
Premium for a Jwars user. I am doing so as Admin. I have checked the
registry for previous installs and there are none. Emsrv is not
running. I set the temp environmental variable to c:\temp to capture
any logs.

The manager install cranks for a while and then I get the first
install screen and immediately a message box saying "Undefined object
does not understand extent. See the walkback log, etc". I click cancel
but there is no walkback log or any of the install text files in the
temp directory that the docs say should document any install

This is on a Dell XPS running at 1600 x 1200. I cranked the resolution
down to 1068 by whatever and got the same result.

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Donald -

If a walkback.log is created, it should be in the current directory -- probably the directory containing setup.exe.

I am sure you have resolved the problem in the meantime, but maybe this comment helps others:

Most of the times when I see this message in the installer, this is due to the fact that the installer has been started out of the zipfile. Windows makes it so easy to make this mistake: you hardly see the difference between a folder and a zipfile in the explorer...

(I had to hit me on the forehead more than once because of this ;-) )...
